I firmly believe that people enjoy working here, and that's why you will find so many individuals who have such long and successful careers with Fidelity.
Fidelity's business has grown dramatically since I joined as a Marketing Executive ten years ago. When I first started at Fidelity my primary goal was to understand the industry and look to gain good experience and knowledge to provide a broad base from which I could develop my career. Broadly speaking my expectations have been exceeded in the speed that roles and opportunities have arisen. I believe that a number of people have had a similar experience within Fidelity.
When I first joined the UK Institutional business, we were a relatively small team focused on winning new business and increasing revenue. The last ten years has seen us grow from being a small but solid business to being one of the largest players in the industry. Across the marketplace the Fidelity brand is now much more widely recognised than it used to be.
One of the key elements of my career to date has been that my role has evolved or changed roughly every two years. Senior management within the business have a clear strategy of looking to ensure that individuals, where they have demonstrated their capabilities, remain stimulated by continuous development and learning. My current job title is Team Leader, UK Institutional Relationship Directors. It's a little bit of a mouthful, but essentially I am responsible for a team of Relationship Directors who are in turn responsible for maintaining links with our major institutional investors. These are large accounts that typically include company pension scheme assets.
Over the years some of the most satisfying times have been working on a new business prospect, taking part in the pitch, winning the business, and then following up with client servicing and developing a long-term, mutually profitable relationship. It feels good to be recognised for your contribution to the business and to know that your efforts have been a driver of the company's success.
One thing I would say to prospective graduates is that even though Fidelity is a big organisation, the business is committed to helping you develop your own career path. If you are seen to be doing well then opportunities often arise as a result. Despite being a large company individuals work within smaller teams and like the fact that their contributions to the success of the business can be recognised and rewarded. Fidelity wants to be the market leader in all parts of its business, to make this happen we will make every effort, and people like working in that culture of success.
